Super easy to get a server going
Any issues I had were quickly solved by the help of the small but extremely helpful support staff. I easily recommend using these guys if your game of choice is available as an option.

Groovy People, great company
I run a Project Zomboid community, had been having a hard time finding a good provider until I found Indifferent Broccoli. Compared to other server providers, they are the best I have used. Friendly and knowledgeable admins in their discord, the owner is a solid human being.

Surviving the zombie apocalypse
Know your surroundings
Project Zomboid is a multiplayer zombie survival crafting game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Think Minecraft meets DayZ. The game immerses players in an unforgiving world where survival is a constant struggle against hunger, illness, and the undead. You have to find items, develop skills. and navigate fictional, corrupted towns in Kentucky. This game is challenging. Expect to die. Many times.
Team up with other players
While surviving on your own is difficult, teaming up with other players can increase your chances of survival. Roleplaying (RP) is key to Zomboid's appeal. You can communicate with other players using in-game chat or voice chat. Many players also create vibrant Discord communities alongside their servers. One of our favorites is Dawn of the Dead.
Build a strong base
Having a secure base is essential for surviving in Project Zomboid. You can build a base by finding a suitable location--a house or a warehouse--then fortifying it with barricades and traps. A sustainable source of food and water is crucial. And don't forget to regularly check and repair your base. You never know who may be lurking in the shadows.
Frequently asked questions
Unfortunately, no. However, we do offer a 2-day free trial server. You can test the server before paying. No credit card needed.
Hosting a Zomboid server costs at least $6.99/month. The more players you have, the higher the price will be. Our largest plan is $32.99/month for 64 players. That is most suitable if you're building a large community server like DaysEndRP.
Using the in-game server browser or the Steam favorites tab, your friends can use your connection details to join. Here is our guide on how to join your Project Zomboid server.
Yes. Project Zomboid requires at least 4GB RAM to function. If you're using mods, then it requires even more. We've seen mod-heavy servers use up to 32GB RAM. That is why we offer uncapped RAM. We only limit your max player count.

Without indifferent broccoli
Running a Project Zomboid dedicated server is... complicated.
System Requirements
To run a dedicated server for Project Zomboid, you will need a 64-bit architecture AMD or Intel CPU, preferably with higher single-core performance. The game recommends a minimum of 4GB of RAM, but it's recommended to have at least 8GB to ensure optimal performance. You will also need an internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 1MBps. The operating system should be Linux (Ubuntu 16.04+), Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit), or macOS 10.12+.
It's important to note that the game is not currently optimized for ARM-based systems, so running the game on such systems may result in reduced performance and stability. Overall, it's important to have a reliable and stable system to ensure the best possible performance and experience for players on the server.
Installation
You can install the server from your Steam library or use SteamCMD.
For Linux:
steamcmd +force_install_dir ./pzserver +login anonymous +app_update 380870 validate +quit
For Windows:
.steamcmd.exe force_install_dir C:PZServer +login anonymous +app_update 380870 validate +quit
You'll need to forward ports 16261 & 16262 UDP for connections and direct connections respectively.
GOG Crossplay: For crossplay, you will need to add the -nosteam parameter to the startup command. You won't be able to use Steam Workshop mods in this case. Windows has a built in batch file for running nosteam.
Starting the server
You can launch the dedicated server from your steam library which will give you a terminal window to view.
You can also run the server by using command line in the server's directory:
Windows:
StartServer64.bat
Linux:
./start-server.sh
